QuickBooks MCP Desktop
Let AI agents keep QuickBooks Desktop books — safely.
QuickBooks Desktop has no modern API, so AI assistants cannot touch it. This server gives Claude, Cursor or any MCP-capable agent 150 accounting tools — customers, invoices, bills, payroll reports, bank reconciliation, journal entries — with dry-run previews, read-only sessions and rollback-safe batch posting, so an agent can work real books without wrecking them.

Two ways to read it
In plain English
QuickBooks Desktop has no modern API, so AI assistants cannot touch it. This server gives Claude, Cursor or any MCP-capable agent 150 accounting tools — customers, invoices, bills, payroll reports, bank reconciliation, journal entries — with dry-run previews, read-only sessions and rollback-safe batch posting, so an agent can work real books without wrecking them.
For engineers
A TypeScript MCP stdio server that builds and parses QBXML 16.0 and talks to QuickBooks Desktop through the QBXMLRP2 COM request processor, or to an in-memory simulation store. Atomic batch creates with compensating rollback, idempotency keys, auto-exhausting iterator pagination, a lookup cache, redacted QBXML logging, five workflow prompts and a 7-probe doctor CLI.
What it does.
- 150 MCP tools across AR, AP, banking, payroll, inventory, sales tax and reports
- Dry-run previews and read-only sessions that block every mutation
- Atomic batch posting of up to 100 invoices with automatic rollback
- Bank-rec helpers that find uncleared items and silently broken prior reconciliations
- Slash-command workflows: month-end close, W-2 prep, trial-balance workup
- Simulation mode runs anywhere; live mode attaches to QuickBooks Desktop on Windows
The story
The problem
Thousands of firms still run QuickBooks Desktop. It speaks a 2000s-era XML protocol over Windows COM, and nothing in the AI world can reach it. That leaves bookkeeping — the most repetitive work in an accounting office — out of reach of the agents that could do most of it.
Built by someone who closes books
The tools map to how an accountant actually works: month-end close, W-2 prep, trial-balance workups, bank reconciliations. Safety comes first — every write can be previewed, a session can be locked read-only, and batch posting rolls back cleanly if any item fails.
